"Improv Acting II” Class ($160/8 Weeks, with a performance!)
Improv Acting II is a class designed to train an improvisor to entertain an audience. This class is a headlong
leap into scenework, stories, and characters.
Since Improv Acting II assumes that you are serious
about doing improv in front
of an audience, students should be familiar with the following skills:
Making offers
Saying “Yes And…!”
Making up stories
Playing with status
Endowing yourself and your partner
Creating objects and locations out of thin air
Seeing what your partner sees
Not worrying about being clever
This class pushes the following skills to really take your game to the next level:
Stage Skills
Being seen and heard
Being aware of the stage "picture"
Practicing with "space objects"
Understanding focus
Teamwork
Being flexible with your fellow players
Making your partners look good
Justifying what has gone on
Saying “Yes, and…!”
Failing good-naturedly
Scenework
Being aware of the narrative of a scene
Getting yourself and your partner into trouble or "raising the
stakes"
Taking your time to get a feel for the beat
Taking the emotional offer
Observing your partners
Adding Color
Developing characters
Allowing your status to shift (and making others' status change)
Exploring styles and genres
This class is open by invitation of the instructor or to those who have successfully completed
the Improv Acting I course material. Improv Acting II is an 8 week course. Each session costs $160 and meets for 8 weeks at the same time each week, with a performance in the 8th week.
A prospective student may pay a $20 trial fee to try out any drop-in, 4-week, or 8-week class at the first meeting and have no further commitment unless he/she would like to enroll!
(Trial fee will be applied against regular class price upon enrollment. First time customers only.)
If you bring 1 friend, you only pay $15 each, 2 or more and you each come in for $10!
If you are planning to join us with a group larger than 8, please contact us directly to register at (925) 609-8100, option 5.
